Beginning January 24, 2010, students and parents applying for federal student aid for college will be able to import their tax information directly from the IRS website to the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), according to the US Department of Education.

The option will first be available as part of a pilot program designed for first-time and renewing applicants. By the summer of 2010, all 2010-2011 applicants will be able to utilize this online process. The goal of the Department of Education is to simplify and streamline the application for federal student aid to encourage more students to attend college. For more information, visit http://fafsa.ed.gov.
